So I want to keep the celebration going. To that end, I'm going to be giving away a free copy of one of my two upcoming releases from Samhain. Since I'm a Libra, I'm pretty much incapable of picking between two choices, so I'll leave that up to the winner. Will they choose:
Strip Tease, my October 24th release? This is the follow-up book to Taking the Cake, with Caroline's story. Here's the blurb:
It seemed easy enough. Hit the local all-male strip club, pick a likely target, and hire him for her best friend's bachelorette party. But the stripper who catches Caroline's eye has a different agenda. He's an undercover cop, and Caroline ends up under arrest – for solicitation!
Tony DiMarco realizes too late that he's made a mistake. Caroline's reputation and business are suffering, and he feels responsible. He feels something else, too – the pull of red-hot desire. He wants Caroline, but she's afraid that he's just trying to make up for his mistake. Can this determined vice cop teach her to trust again?
Or what about Ritual Love, my first paranormal romance? Part of the Beginnings: A Samhain Anthology collection, it's coming out in e-book form on October 31st. Here's the scoop:
Scientist Moira Sinclair doesn't believe in magic. Or at least she hasn't since childhood. She's only come to Iona in remembrance of her long-deceased grandmother—the last person who encouraged her fanciful side. But now she's stumbled onto a secret druid ritual—and into another time.
Aedan Ap Crannog is furious to discover an outsider spying on their sacred, banned Samhain rites. With her strange garb and stranger mannerisms, Moira is unlike any woman he's ever known. But she could cause trouble for him and the people who follow him in the ancient ways. To prevent her from sounding the alarm, he takes her captive, hiding her in the labyrinth of caves along the far shore.
Despite their differences, sparks burn between them as brightly as the Samhain bonfire. Now captive and captor must find a way to bridge the centuries before the magic disappears with the dawn...
I'll choose a winner from all the posters between now and 5 pm PST Friday, October 20. And if you want to double your chances to win, sign up for my newsletter! One member of my newsletter group will win a free copy of one of my two October releases.

And to get the discussion started, here's a question for you...
What's the best birthday present you ever received? Or, what would you love to give someone if money were no object?

Hi Kate!
I loved Taking The Cake, so if i win i think i'd have to choose Caroline's story. But your other novel sonds real good, too...
Presents? Oh, there's just so much to choose from! Golly gee...I've never really givin it too much thought. I tend to prefer cash *g*. My own island, maybe? Money being no object. Complete with sprawling mansion with HUGE library, of course. The library is a must *sighing happily*. Don't know what i'd give to anyone else...
What about you?
With two kids in college, money is pretty tight. If I had the money to do it, I would love to pack up all my family (parents, sisters and their kids), and rent a home in Italy or Switzerland and explore Europe for a year. Loved Taking the Cake, but both your new titles sound great. It would be hard to pick just one.
I love the sound of both books the sound really good
If money was no object me and hubby would get an RV and travel all over. We've always dreamed of doing that. I know I know it sounds corny. LOL
I would love to be able to take my whole family on a world trip. or pay off all of their mortgages mine included
I would love to fly my whole family to Canada.
The best birthday has been this one,my husband and son sent me to the spa today and tomorrow on my birthday they are taking me out to dinner.
The best presents I have received are gift certificates for the bookstores! :) If money was no object, I would love to buy each of our four adult children their own home and pay off their college debt. I also would like to purchase a large woodworking shop with all the latest tools for my husband. He took up woodworking as a hobby about three years ago and he either works outside when the weather is nice, or he does it in our basement. Even tho he has a filtration system some of the dust seems to settle everywhere in the house. I am tired of dusting! LOL
Both books sound really good, but if I win, I think I would like to read Strip Tease. Love the title! :)

Wow, lots of responses! I'll try to cover several at a time...
First, thanks to everyone who read (and liked) Taking the Cake. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it enough to let me know about it! And I can't believe Strip Tease will be out in less than a week!
Elizabeth, I love your big-library-island idea. I'd go for that!
Jeana, Italy is a fabulous idea! And isn't it cool how special memories from childhood stick around like that?
Cathy, I'm sensing a theme here -- Italy and Switzerland are both great places. :)
Dannyfiredragon, what a great gift -- travel, books and authors! I'd be in heaven! :)
Liz, thanks! I'm so excited they'll be available soon. I love them both!
Okay, more in the next post...
Okay, I'm back!
Glenna, not corny at all! It seems like at least once a year my DH and I start looking at travel trailers. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but it the idea of wandering the country with our own "home" is tempting.
pamk, the trip sounds great -- but if you ever get the chance to pay off everyone's mortgages, wouldja mind adding mine to the list? LOL
Jennybrat, I'd love to explore Canada with my family. So many wonderful places to go, so little vacation time!
Sherry, I agree -- and what good is a fantasy vacation without books, I ask you? :)
Me again...
Kimw, I have to tell you, I misread your post at first, and wondered how I was supposed to tell you that I wasn't actually giving away a vice cop. LOL! Although Tony is quite the prize...
And the yellow rose is a sweet memory. Thanks for sharing.
Devair, happy birthday, fellow Libra! I have to say, that's a pretty awesome birthday present. Hope you liked the spa visit!
Annalisa, I hear you on the bookstore gift certs! It's almost as much fun planning what I'm going to buy as buying it. Okay, not quite... And I like your gift ideas! I'll keep my fingers crossed that the dust in your house decreases for you...
Jen in WA, isn't it fun when the gifts you get include time with people you care about? And if you haven't been to Qwest Field (I keep wanting to call it the Dome), you'll love it. The seats are actually comfortable, the views good, and it's really kept well. At least it was for the concert last night. (We didn't get into any of the private boxes, but the Player's Club Lounges were open to ticket holders on the 200 level (which isn't the case on game days), so we got to peek in. Way cool!)
Hey, Lori, somehow we cross-posted. Sorry I missed yours!
So you and your Mom got tattoos, eh? Now THAT'S what I call mother-daughter bonding! LOL
I've thought about getting a tattoo -- a Celtic design, maybe in the small of my back -- but I'm too chicken to go through with it. Maybe someday!
And I'm so glad you liked TtC!
Both books sound good. If I had the money to do it, I would build every family member a new house and take them to Hawaii.
The best birthday gift that I ever received was a trip to Mexico from my hubby. If money were no object, I would love to take my whole family on a trip to Ireland.
Wow - both of those books sound wonderful! I've got them on my TBR list!
Best Present---hmmm. I always love getting gift certificates (especially to book stores) or cash (who doesn't like that). But I think the best present I ever received on my birthday was when a cat that my dog brought home (yes, he loved her even though she was a CAT....lol) had 4 beautiful kittens on my birthday (2 sets of twin girls). Those were my babies (the vet's office listed them as "The Gang" on their file) and we all shared a birthday. That's got to be the best birthday present ever. I still miss all 4 of them to this date....several years after I lost my last little girl.
As for gift giving, I try to give something that reflects the interests of the person I'm gifting. I have a friend who loves to scrapbook so I'm always on the lookout for good scrapbooking supplies; another collects paperweights so I'm always looking for unusual ones...etc...
Loved everyone's responses- it's always so interesting to get ideas from other people.
I'd love to give my parents a new house if money were no object. They have lived in the same house for almost 30 years and it is not in the best shape. They have always been there for me.
Wow! Lots of responses tonight -- thanks for stopping by, everyone!
Amy, I'm glad the books sound good to you! I had so much fun writing them. And houses and Hawaii sound like a great combination!
Bamabelle, both the trip you received and the trip you'd like to give sound wonderful!
Robin, loved the story of the dog and cat! How fun to share a birthday with your furbabies. and I think it's so wonderful that you keep an eye out for gifts that truly reflect the personalities of the people you're buying for. Brava!
Jeana, I was in Italy back in '91 (oh, man, that was so LONG ago!) and absolutely loved it. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
That last post was getting overlong, so I thought I'd split up my responses...
Crystal, your birthday celebration sounds like it'd be right up my alley. On Date Night, my hubby and I usually end up at the bookstore. And wouldn't it be great to have the resources to make grand gestures like that?
Phyllis!
Happy Birthday to you, too! Wish I could say I planned the release date just for you, but I guess we'll have to give credit to Samhain. :)
Ali,
I'm doing great! How about you?
Debt can be such a heavy load to carry -- how thoughtful of you to want to take that burden away for them.
Thanks, everyone, for your responses! Don't forget to check back Friday night for the name of the winner!
Kareng -- what a generous gift that would be! Thanks so much for stopping by!
