Thursday Thirteen #11 -- 13 Fave Romantic Scenes

I don't suppose it'll be a surprise to anyone that I love romantic moments, on film or on TV shows. Historical or contemporary, if there's a sigh-worthy moment, I'm there!

Here are some of my favorites. Warning, there may be some spoilers here, if you haven't seen these particular movies or shows yet. Luckily, I'm so behind on my TV and movie viewing, most of these are several years old. :)

1. Mr. Darcy Takes a Dive. Pride and Prejudice, A & E version. When Colin Firth took a dip in the pond, then stumbled upon Elizabeth in the gardens -- oooh la la!

2. The spaghetti scene. Lady and the Tramp.
3. Monica Shows Up In Chandler's Bed. Friends. Okay, it's more comedy than romance, but I *loved* it. Talk about a shocker -- and a great set-up to the whole story arc.

4. The final scene of An Affair to Remember. 'Nuff said.

5. Lucy Finally Tells the Truth. While You Were Sleeping. At her own wedding, she confesses she's in love with Jack. "Not that one...*that* one."

6. Mark Darcy's Monologue. Bridget Jones's Diary. This was a tough one -- because there are just so many good sigh-worthy scenes in the movie!

7. Elinor Loses It. Sense and Sensibility. Get your mind out of the gutter -- this is Jane Austen, after all! It's the scene almost at the end, when Emma Thompson's character learns that she has a chance with Hugh Grant's character, after all.

8. Niles Confesses To Daphne. Frasier. "Oh, for heaven's sake, Dr. Crane." (She kisses him passionately.) "I think you can call me Niles now."

9. Anna's Speech to William. Notting Hill. How can you resist a line like, "I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her."

10. Hannah Gets The Bottle of Rain. Anything but Love. This one's coming out on DVD soon -- not this episode yet, unfortunately -- and I am *all* over it.

11. Lois Takes Off Clark's Glasses. Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. What's a girl to do, when she gets a proposal from her best friend AND Superman at the same time? :)

12. The Rain Dance. Singin' in the Rain. Okay, not technically a romantic scene, but his absolute joy in his love for Kathy just shines through. I melt a little every time I see it.

13. Jamie Confesses His Love for Aurelia. In Portuguese. Love Actually. What, do you think I have a thing for Colin Firth or something? Just because he shows up three times on this list?

Yes, I could have gone on and on. It was hard to narrow down!

And this list doesn't even take into consideration 'sad' romantic moments, like the end of Casablanca or any sitcom where the characters almost-but-not-quite get together.

So, what are your favorites?

Totally agree with you about Niles and Daphne. I was convinced it would never happen. And I love that scene from Singin' In The Rain. Love the entire movie in fact.

The part you mentioned in Notting Hill still in my memory. :)

Quite a few references to Hugh Grant movies. I don't think you could have a list like this without them!

I'm not much of a movie buff, but I do love Frasier.

Oh, fun topic!

Here are just a few, in no particular order:

1. When Adam Sandler tells Drew Barrymore he's in love with her in "The WEdding Singer". Goosebumps.

2. The kiss on the train in "French Kiss", and oh, what the heck, the one at the end of the movie, too.

3. Ross & Rachel's first kiss in "Friends".

I'm with you about the variety of scenes to choose from. It's amazing that you narrowed the list down to 13. Nice TT.

Yes, Hugh Grant does romantic comedy the same way every time, but he pulls it off. I love several moments of Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Love your list, and I agree with a lot of them. Niles and Daphne, Monica and Chandler...sigh...

Nicholas -- my eight year old is a huge fan of Singin in the Rain. We always have to watch it if we come across it on TV. I feel like we're raising her right. :)

Michelle -- I still get shivers!

K T -- Hugh does seem to be everywhere in romantic comedy, doesn't he? I just love that bumbling English shy guy thing he does!

Raggedy -- oh, some of these are *classics*! Hie thee to a video store! :)

Stacy -- I haven't seen French Kiss yet, but the other two were under serious consideration for the list.

Scooper -- yeah, it was not an easy task.

Ciar -- My fave scene from Four Weddings was, well, the funeral. I get choked up every time John Hannah gives the eulogy. A love like that ....

Sstarchy -- yeah, I had so much fun walking down memory lane for these!

Thanks for stopping by, everyone!

I have to say one of my favourite romantic scenes is from Stargate: SG1. There is an episode where Jack and Sam are trapped on either side of a barrier. She can't get away and she tells him to leave. He yells no, and gives her a look that says more than any words. Just love that.

Yeah, Gene Kelly. Mmmmm. I love old movies and I love anything with him or Fred Astaire in them. Both danced their way into my heart when I was just a little kid. :-)

How funny, my kids are actually watching Lady and the Tramp right this moment. :)

I loved the romantic moment in Jerry Maguire, but "You had me at hello" has become cliche now. It still gets me.

Oh, and Drew Barrymore carrying away Prince Henry in Ever After, thus saving him from the gypsies, is a great scene. :P

YES! All of them! But your number one is mine...I'll share, but Darcy coming out of the water is just plain ol' sigh worthy.

Fabulous list...now I have some flicks to watch again.

I can't think of your #11 without remembering the guy from the future who revealed Clark's identity to Lois along with the ages-old question, "How dumb was she?!" LOL

As for most romantic moments, I love what you've got; I've even seen most of them. I'd have to add the flashback scene near the end of Brokeback Mountain where Ennis is holding Jack and they're both nearly asleep on their feet. ::sigh, sniff:: Oh, and Danny Deckchair, when he crashlands in her backyard the second time. Funny and romantic. :)

Totally agree wf u 100% on the colin firth front hav been a bbc pride n prejudice fan 4 ages the new one has nothin 2 it. How bout when lizzy catches darcy's eye 4m across the room when georgiana is playin piano forte? Or in Doctor Who, I know not exactly the romantic type is it? But when the doctor n rose r opening the time vortex 2 trap al the darleks n rose loses her grip n fals through n then her 'dad' saves her. After tht then when she cs the doc again its a hollogram n it disappears b4 th doc can say 2 rose tht he loves her....sniff..sniff.......:( :( :(
